not just a customer but an agent of change
During my second year of ministry school, I discovered that 51% of traffickers feign romantic interest to recruit sex trafficking victims. I was listening to Rebecca Bender (sex trafficking survivor) share her story about how she was tricked into falling in love with a pimp who pretended to love her. One day he invited her to go to Las Vegas with him.
Little did she know that her life would never be the same. At 19, her “boyfriend” became her pimp, coerced her into prostitution and she spent the next 6 years forced into sex trafficking until Federal Investigators found her.
I WAS IN SHOCK!
That day, I realized something that changed my life. Rebecca Bender’s story could have been MY STORY.
I could have been manipulated into sex trafficking…easily.
IT COULD HAVE BEEN ME…IT COULD HAVE BEEN YOU
I was struggling with self-worth, looking for love in relationships rather than in who God says I am. If a trafficker showed me love and affection, I could have been kidnapped, coerced, and trafficked too.
That led me to start educating myself about the reality of human trafficking and sparked a desire to be a part of the solution.
That’s why for every purchase, 1 hand stamped necklace is gifted to Stand 4 Justice, a local organization in Redding whose missions is to end human trafficking.
Led by Sarah-Jane Vegas, a survivor of sex trafficking, Sarah and her team go to brothels, strip clubs and porn conventions bringing gifts like jewelry, self-care items, and prophetic art cards to show women that the Father sees, knows and loves them.
There have been many stories of women that were touched by these gifts and after some time of building trust and relationship with them, reach out to the team seeking escape.
YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE
I know what it feels like to see a problem and feel powerless to change it. I felt the same way in the beginning. But after discovering Rebecca Bender, Sarah-Jane Vegas, Benjamin Nolot, NCAT and so many other organizations that are making a difference, I saw how the Lord is raising people up to reach these women and that I didn’t have to do it alone.
What is your part in all of this?
After reading this, if you feel compassion, hope or inspiration to partner with the Lord and put an end to human trafficking, start educating yourself. I’ve included some resources for you to start at the end of this page.
Also, remember that every time you purchase a jewelry gift for yourself or a loved one, that you are gifting a woman with courage. Love is a mighty weapon against evil. The same love that transforms your life is the love that will transform theirs!
